While many head to Hawaii for its breathtaking beaches, all-inclusive resorts and laidback lifestyle, the idyllic archipelago also has a number of outstanding national parks to check out.

Introduction

Renowned for its stunning natural beauty, breathtaking beaches and laid back way of life, for many people, Hawaii is synonymous with paradise and it is easy to see why. Boasting its own unique culture and identity, the picture-perfect archipelago really is a treat to explore with incredible outdoor activities and superb snorkeling, scuba diving and surfing to be enjoyed wherever you go.

Set nearly at the center of the north Pacific Ocean, some 2,400 miles or so off of California, Hawaii consists of 137 volcanic islands although only six are inhabited and open for tourists to visit. Aside from dramatic cliffs and mountains, most of the isles are covered in lush, thick tropical rainforest with pristine beaches and secluded coves lining their shores.

The fiftieth state to be admitted into the Union, the Islands of Aloha are delightfully diverse thanks to their central location in the Pacific and centuries of migration. Despite their multicultural make-up, the islands all proudly exhibit their Hawaiian heritage in the shape of everything from hula and aloha shirts to shave ice, surfing, stories and songs.

As it is the most-populous and developed of the isles, most visitors head to Oahu, which is home to the state capital Honolulu and Waikiki Beach; one of Hawaii’s most famous destinations. As well as acting as an economic and cultural center for the archipelago, it is also known for the moving USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbour.

The two largest islands in the chain, Big Island and Maui, also welcome lots of people who come to enjoy their beautiful beaches, soaring volcanoes and luxury resorts. Their epic national parks also offer great hiking and biking while swimming, surfing and snorkeling can be had offshore.

One of the most unforgettable places to head in all Hawaii, however, has to be Kaua’i which boasts the Na Pali Coast and Waimea Canyon. Featured in Jurassic Park, these two awe-inspiring natural wonders need to be seen to be believed such are their staggering size, scale and splendor.
