Cruises are supposed to be easy.
You get on the ship, unpack once, and everything just… happens around you.
Food, stops, entertainment — all handled.
And then there’s what actually happens.
This comes from a Reddit thread where people shared the craziest things they’ve seen on cruises. Not minor inconveniences — actual moments that stick with you long after the trip ends.
A Bar Fight That Turns Into a Multi-Level Brawl

This happened on a 3-night Carnival cruise out of Port Canaveral.
It starts in the atrium bar. A few people arguing.
Then it spreads.
“It turned into a full blown WWF brawl. 10-15 people started fist fighting and wrestling each other. Drink glasses started flying as well.”
At that point, it’s already chaos.
But then people watching from the decks above get involved too.
“people watching the fight from the decks above at the atrium started throwing their drinks at the people below.”
So now it’s not just a fight — it’s multiple levels of the ship involved, with drinks and glass coming down from above.
A 150-Day Cruise Where Someone Never Got Off

This wasn’t a short trip.
This was an around-the-world cruise — roughly 150 days with stops all over the world.
And one passenger stayed on the ship the entire time.
“Sent a client on an around the world cruise, something like 150 days. The client never got off the ship. Not once!”
Every port came and went.
They just stayed onboard.
Flooding on the Ship With Water Running Down the Stairs

On another cruise, people noticed water coming down the staircases between decks.
Not a spill — actual flooding.
“A pipe had ruptured and water was rushing down the stairs. With the Titanic theme song playing🤣”
Cabins were affected and people had to be moved.
And somehow, the Titanic theme song was playing while it was happening.
A Three-Hour Emergency Triggered by a Pillow

At one point, the ship went into full emergency mode.
Someone reported a passenger overboard.
Search procedures started and everything stopped.
“Spent three hours doing a ‘man overboard’ drill when someone saw a pillow fly off a balcony and reported it as a passenger overboard.”
It lasted three hours.
And it turned out to be a pillow.
A Cruise That Turned Into Ten Straight Days at Sea

This was supposed to be a 15-day cruise with multiple stops.
Then weather hit, and ports started getting cancelled.
“we had 10 full sea days in a row, we were told that’s the longest time without a port that Carnival has ever had”
By the end of the trip:
“15 day cruise, 13 hours off the ship.”
Almost the entire trip was spent onboard.
A Swingers Group Taking Over the Ship

This wasn’t advertised as a themed cruise.
People boarded expecting a normal mix of families and couples.
But once onboard, something stood out.
“there was a massive swingers group on the boat. They all wore matching robes that said ‘floating debauchery’”
And it wasn’t a private event.
“This cruise WAS NOT advertised as a swingers boat and there was a good amount of children.”
So you had a regular cruise… and that happening at the same time.
Storm Conditions That Took Over the Trip

Another cruise ran into extreme weather.
Not just rough seas — sustained storm conditions.
“we near-constantly experienced winds in excess of 90mph/145kmph.”
And it didn’t pass quickly.
“Basically we had a perfect storm of misery for literally everybody on board”
A Fire Alert in the Middle of the Night

Passengers were asleep when the alarm went off.
“we were woken up in the middle of the night…it was actually this past Christmas Eve…to the alert of bravo bravo bravo.”
Most people didn’t know what that meant.
“Turns out that means fire.”
Turning the Ship Around for a Helicopter Evacuation

At one point, the ship changed course.
Not for weather — for a medical emergency.
“we had to go back to get close enough for the helicopter to reach the ship and evacuate a passenger.”
The entire route shifted so a helicopter could reach the ship.
A Moving Bar That Got Stuck Mid-Air

On one ship, there’s a bar that moves between decks.
People were sitting there when it stopped.
“the floating bar on Harmony got stuck. They were there for a few hours before being helped down a ladder.”
They were stuck there for hours before being helped down.
The Conversation You Don’t Expect Before Boarding

Not everything is chaos.
Some things are just strange enough to stick with you.
“Dad, I’ve brought my knife”
“Why have you brought your knife you can’t take that onboard you will have to bury it somewhere”
Just something overheard before boarding.
