Argentina Overview

Argentina is a large country in the southern part of South America second in size in the continent to Brazil and eighth in the world.

The capital of Argentina is Buenos Aires home to two-fifths of the population. Buenos Aires is one of the most European cities in South America. It is a very stylish city with many interesting buildings from the nineteenth century.

In the west of Argentina the Andes mountains offer great outdoor opportunities: hiking, skiing and much more. The central region of Argentina is mostly the rich plain known as La Pampa. There is jungle in the extreme northern areas, especially on the east. Patagonia, the far south of Argentina is a rugged and cold land. Situated on the Beagle Strait, Ushuaia, the world's most southerly city, enjoys a fabulous setting and commonly used as a base for hiking, winter sports and cruises to Antarctica.
