The capital of Saxony, Dresden is a historic gem of a German city. You wouldn’t believe it from looking at it today, but many of Dresden’s historic buildings were lost during bombing raids in World War II. In fact, around 90% of the city center was destroyed. Today, it’s been rebuilt and looks as good as it ever did; incredible Baroque buildings have been restored to their former glory, and old streets reconstructed anew.
Thanks to the history of Dresden, stretching back many multiple centuries, many of its hotels are housed in former palaces and heritage townhouses. Some come with fittings and fixtures – and service – to match. But there are affordable places too; places that are more modern and trendy, reflecting the Dresden of today as a center of high-tech industry in Germany.
