Forested trails, dramatic sandstone cliffs, and sweeping valley views make this one of the most scenic outdoor escapes in Appalachia. The landscape feels rugged and adventurous, yet still welcoming enough for relaxed family trips and casual day hikes.
Tucked away in the hills of Kentucky, Natural Bridge State Resort Park is best known for its towering natural sandstone arch and its access to the nearby Red River Gorge. Alongside the famous scenery, visitors can also enjoy hiking trails, zip lining adventures, and skylift rides above the forest canopy.

Visit Creation Falls
The Rock Bridge Trail is a 1.4-mile hiking route leading directly to Creation Falls. Along the trail, a small creek runs through the forest, creating a relaxing setting with the sound of flowing water throughout the hike.
Creation Falls is a popular stop for visitors looking to cool off after hiking, especially during warmer months. The surrounding area also includes scenic picnic spots and access to additional hiking trails.
Hike to the Natural Bridge
The Natural Bridge is one of the park’s most recognizable attractions. This massive sandstone arch measures 78 feet wide and 65 feet tall, offering impressive panoramic views from the top.
Visitors can reach the Natural Bridge by hiking one of several scenic trails or by taking the skylift. Popular hiking routes include the Balanced Rock Trail, Battleship Rock Trail, and Laurel Ridge Trail.
Ride the Sky Lift
The Low Gap Trail provides one of the shortest routes to the skylift. Beginning near the parking area, the trail passes through a natural limestone gap before connecting to Rock Garden Trail.
The skylift offers sweeping views of the surrounding Red River Gorge landscape and serves as a relaxing alternative to hiking back down the mountain.
Go Rock Climbing
Muir Valley, located within the Red River Gorge region, is a 350-acre climbing preserve featuring more than 30 climbing walls. The area is well known for its variety of climbing routes suitable for different skill levels.
One popular route, Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’, includes several challenging bouldering-style moves and steep overhang sections, making it better suited for intermediate climbers.
Take a Zipline Tour
Ziplining is another popular activity in the Red River Gorge area. Guided zipline tours feature multiple lines reaching speeds of up to 55 mph, with some courses including ziplines stretching nearly 1,900 feet.
Most tours last between one and two hours and include professional guides to assist participants throughout the experience.
