Smack dab in the center of Switzerland is Lucerne, a medieval city with a lot to see, do and explore. Perhaps the most iconic attraction in the city is the Chapel Bridge, which was built in the 14th century and is the oldest wooden bridge in all of Europe. While parts of the bridge have been rebuilt, the bridge is still a unique attraction you won’t want to miss. Also iconic in the city of Lucerne is the Löwendenkmal, or lion monument. This stone sculpture was created in the 18th century to honor the death of Swiss guards, and it is widely regarded as one of the most moving and poignant sculptures in the world.
