If you’re planning on heading out for a trekking adventure in the Annapurna area, your jumping off point will probably be Pokhara. This city, which is the second largest in Nepal, enjoys a magnificent setting. It is bordered by Phewa Lake and boasts panoramic views of the Himalayan Mountains. Fortunately for Pokhara, it was largely unaffected by the 2015 earthquake that caused so much devastation in Kathmandu.
Some of the interesting sites you may want to visit while in Pokhara include the Bindhyabasini Temple; the Barahi Temple, which sits on an island and is only accessible by a boat; and the World Peace Stupa. There are also plenty of activities to keep active travelers busy, including horseback riding, rafting, ziplining, mountain biking, bungee jumping and paragliding. There are also a number of interesting caves in the area.
