The Tiny American Town Where Everything Feels Slightly Out of Scale

By Mike Kaplan · Last updated on June 8, 2026

Most drivers flying down Interstate 70 between St. Louis and Indianapolis never think twice about the tiny towns along the route. That’s a mistake. One small Midwestern town of around 2,400 people holds a dozen Guinness World Records for giant everyday objects, all packed into a walkable downtown you could cover in about an hour if you don’t dawdle.

What really makes Casey worth the detour is the weird contrast. One minute, you’re gawking at a 56-foot rocking chair; the next, you’re ducking into a local coffee shop. The attractions are huge—literally—but the town itself feels relaxed and down-to-earth. It’s a fun spot to stretch your legs, snap a few photos, or even spend half a day if you’re feeling curious.

Why Travelers Stop Here

Honestly, it comes down to location and cost. Casey sits right off I-70, so you can swing in and out without burning much time. The oversized attractions? Totally free. You park, wander around, take as many goofy pictures as you want, and hit the road whenever you feel like it. For families with kids who’ve been trapped in the car for hours, that’s a lifesaver.

The downtown gives you a reason to hang around a bit longer. Casey Coffee Company on Main Street makes a decent espresso and some surprisingly good donuts. Richards Farm Restaurant, in a restored 1930s barn just outside the center, pulls in folks for classic American comfort food and a vibe that actually feels local. Antique and gift shops fill the blocks between all the big stuff, so you’ll end up browsing as you wander from one record-holder to the next.

Things move at their own pace here. You won’t find admission gates or crowds pushing past you. Just stroll, stop if something grabs your attention, and leave whenever you’re ready. Sometimes the town puts on seasonal events, so it’s worth checking the city’s calendar before you go—could be an extra reason to stick around.

Record-Breaking Sights Downtown

Most of Casey’s 12 Guinness-certified attractions cluster near Main Street and Central Avenue, right by the town’s lone stoplight. You can wander to all of them on foot—honestly, it’s barely a loop.

The World’s Largest Wind Chime hangs out beside Crazy 8’s BBQ at 109 East Main Street, and on breezy days, you can hear its deep tones from a block away. Right across the street, the World’s Largest Rocking Chair looms over the sidewalk—standing next to it, you might feel like a toddler next to a giant’s furniture. Take a few steps in almost any direction and you’ll bump into an oversized mailbox you can walk inside, some massive knitting needles, a golf tee, and over 20 other “big things” scattered around the blocks. Not all of them hold records, but they’re all a bit odd and fun.

It’s almost impossible not to fall into a rhythm: you spot something huge in the distance, wander over for a picture, then notice another quirky giant peeking around the corner. Kids usually race ahead, while adults linger, reading the little plaques explaining each piece. If you grab a coffee or duck into a shop, the whole circuit might stretch to an hour, but you could rush it in less.
